Surrounding information
Jogashima Island is rich in nature and has many places where you can enjoy nature, such as parks with wide grassy areas, cliffs and rocky coastlines, beautiful lighthouses, and hiking trails with magnificent views.
1.Jogashima Lighthouse
This Western‑style lighthouse was designed by the French engineer Léonce Verny during the Meiji era. Originally built in the late 1800s, it was later rebuilt after the Great Kantō Earthquake. Positioned on the west side of the island, it offers beautiful views of the sunset.
2.Sea Fishing Pond (Ocean Floating Fish Pit)
This floating fish pond is reachable on foot from the shore. The location offers stunning views — including Mount Fuji on clear days — and is perfect for a leisurely fishing experience. Fishing rods, bait, and even containers for caught fish are provided, so you can enjoy it comfortably without bringing equipment.
3.Jogashima Diving Center
Where Sagami Bay, Tokyo Bay, and the Kuroshio Current meet, Jogashima is a top scuba diving spot with abundant marine life. The varied underwater terrain attracts migratory fish such as yellowtail and horse mackerel, colorful seasonal fish in summer, and creatures like sea slugs in winter.
4.Umanose Doumon (Horseback Cave)
The Umanose Doumon is a remarkable natural rock arch formed over many years by ocean waves cutting through the rock. Around this area, rock pools form at low tide where you can observe various marine creatures up close.
5.Prefectural Jogashima Park
Just beyond the Jogashima Ohashi Bridge lies Prefectural Jogashima Park, a scenic park with expansive views of the sea and a rich natural environment that includes coastal plants and habitats for wild birds. At the picnic area, you’ll find Awasaki Lighthouse, ideal for overlooking the Pacific and watching sunrise.
6.Awasaki Lighthouse
Located on the eastern side of Jogashima within Jogashima Park, this lighthouse is known for its distinctive pointed roof and fresh white‑green color design inspired by a vegetable motif. Because it faces east, it’s a wonderful spot for watching the sunrise.
